SCOUTING WITH A PURPOSE
More Than Meetings and Merit Badges
Troop 354 provides a year-round, youth-led Scouting program built around outdoor adventure, advancement, leadership, service, and personal growth. Scouts learn skills by using them, develop confidence by accepting responsibility, and progress at their own pace toward goals that become more challenging as they advance.
EXPLORE
Camping, hiking, paddling, summer camp, high adventure, and outdoor skills give Scouts opportunities to challenge themselves in new environments.
LEAD
Scouts develop leadership through patrols, troop positions of responsibility, planning, teaching, communication, and decision-making.
SERVE
Service teaches Scouts to look beyond themselves and use their skills, time, and leadership to strengthen their community.
OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
The Outdoors Is Our Classroom
Camping and outdoor adventure are central to the Troop 354 program. Scouts learn by planning trips, preparing meals, caring for equipment, navigating the outdoors, practicing first aid, and working together in real situations.
Our program may include weekend campouts, hikes, aquatic activities, summer camp, outdoor skills instruction, conservation activities, and opportunities for more advanced adventures as Scouts gain experience.
ADVANCEMENT
A Trail of Growth and Achievement
Advancement gives Scouts a clear path for developing skills, accepting greater responsibility, and setting increasingly challenging goals. Scouts advance at their own pace with support from youth leaders, adult leaders, merit badge counselors, and their families.
Scout → First Class
Scouts build the foundational skills of camping, first aid, navigation, fitness, citizenship, and the Patrol Method.
Star & Life
Advancement increasingly emphasizes leadership, service, merit badges, responsibility, and preparation for Eagle.
Eagle Scout
The culmination of years of advancement, leadership, service, planning, perseverance, and personal growth.
MERIT BADGES
Discover New Interests
Merit badges allow Scouts to explore subjects ranging from outdoor skills and trades to science, citizenship, careers, hobbies, and personal development.
Some merit badges are required for the Eagle Scout rank, while many others allow Scouts to pursue subjects that match their individual interests.
Leadership
Troop 354 is youth-led. Scouts serve in positions of responsibility, lead patrols, teach skills, plan activities, communicate with one another, and learn to make decisions that affect the troop.
Adult leaders provide coaching, support, safety, and mentorship while allowing youth leaders room to learn through real experience.
Service
Service is woven throughout the Scouting program. Scouts participate in troop projects, community service, conservation efforts, Eagle Scout service projects, and other opportunities to help others.
Through service, Scouts learn that leadership is not only about directing others—it is also about helping, giving back, and taking responsibility for their community.
THE TRAIL TO EAGLE
The Eagle Scout Journey
Eagle Scout is the highest rank in Scouting America and represents years of advancement, leadership, service, perseverance, and growth. Troop 354 takes pride in supporting Life Scouts as they complete the final stages of their journey while ensuring that the Scout remains responsible for leading the process.
From Life Scout to Eagle
After earning the Life Scout rank, a Scout begins completing the remaining advancement requirements for Eagle. This includes continued leadership and service, required merit badges, planning and leading an Eagle Scout service project, completing the Eagle Scout application process, and participating in an Eagle Scout board of review.
Troop leaders help Scouts understand requirements, identify resources, prepare for important milestones, and stay organized—but the responsibility for completing the journey belongs to the Scout.
1. Prepare
Complete advancement requirements, remaining merit badges, leadership, and service while identifying a potential Eagle Scout service project.
2. Plan
Work with a beneficiary, develop a project proposal, receive required approvals, and prepare a plan for safely leading others.
3. Lead
Carry out the project by organizing resources, communicating the plan, directing volunteers, adapting to challenges, and demonstrating leadership.
4. Complete
Finish the project report and Eagle application process, complete remaining requirements, and prepare for the Eagle Scout board of review.
Supporting Life Scouts
Troop 354 provides guidance to Life Scouts throughout the Eagle process. Scouts can receive help understanding requirements, reviewing project ideas and paperwork, preparing for approvals, organizing their remaining advancement needs, and navigating the final application process.
The purpose of that support is not to complete the work for the Scout. The Eagle journey is designed to demonstrate that the Scout can take ownership, communicate effectively, lead others, solve problems, and complete a significant goal.
A YEAR-ROUND PROGRAM
Always Something Ahead
Troop 354’s program continues throughout the year. Weekly meetings help Scouts prepare for upcoming activities, practice skills, complete advancement work, and plan as patrols.
Campouts, summer camp, service opportunities, special events, advancement activities, leadership development, and other experiences give Scouts opportunities to continually put those skills into practice.

Every part of the Troop 354 program is designed to give Scouts meaningful experiences. Whether they are learning a new outdoor skill, leading their patrol, serving their community, earning a merit badge, or working toward Eagle Scout, Scouts are challenged to grow through responsibility, perseverance, teamwork, and leadership.
