Borrowing Troop Equipment

From the Scoutmaster:

From time to time  scout families ask if it is possible to borrow some troop equipment for a family activity...like a family camping experience or family reunion...or even for trying out some Dutch Oven cooking at home.

The answer is, generally, yes.  While nothing has been formalized yet, here are some of my guidelines:

1.  The Troop needs come first and the equipment must be available for Troop functions before any private function.  If there is a conflict, the Troop gets its property.

2.  We are most willing to lend equipment to other scouting groups (like cub scouts) if a member of our Troop or Troop Committee is willing to be responsible for it.

3.  We will let Scouting families borrow some of our equipment -- typically tents, cooking gear, lanterns, dining flies, etc.

4.  Before releasing any equipment, the Scoutmaster, Quartermaster and/or Committee Chairman should grant permission -- preferably all 3 will be notified so we can clear any conflicts in usage.

5.  The Scout or parent taking the equipment is responsible for it.  If it gets damaged, they must fix or repair it at their expense.

6.  All equipment must be returned cleaned and in a timely fashion.

7.  Generally we will allow equipment to be reserved on a first come, first served basis.

8.  Troop leadership reserves the right to refuse to allow the equipment to be used by any person, scout or family for any or no reason.  Using troop equipment is a service, not a right.  We provide this service to active, responsible scouts and their families.  The more active a scout or family is, the more likely we will lend troop equipment.

As other requests are made, I will update this list so that troop families can all get a feel for what we do.

Yours in Scouting,

Mark Courtade, Scoutmaster
